Ardovini and Friyia tie Jamieson opener

It was a beautiful day at Seven Lakes as the Jamieson Jr. Tour to returned to action for the first time this season. "It's great to be back competing again and to play in the Jamieson Tour for the first time" said Jilian Friyia who tied with Vanessa Ardovini for the win in the jr. girls division. Both fired a three-over-par 74.

Frijia, who travelled from London because the Tyson Tour was cancelled, carded three birdies and felt stronger as the day wore on. "I am happy with the tie after struggling with my first few holes, but recovering later in the round" said the Oakridge Secondary School student.

Ardovini also dropped three birdies but was most proud of her finish on the difficult par-3 on 11 "Up until that point I hadn't made any longer putts so it was nice to finally see one drop" said the Holy Names student. "I'm very proud to have shot my lowest tournament round to date at today's event"

The pace of play was slower than usual and a lot of players showed the effects of not playing competitively due to the pandemic. Alek Mauro found himself at +6 after the first two holes. "I immediately bouced back with two birdies on the next two holes and found my rhythm" said the St. Joe's grad who is heading to Detroit Mercy in the fall on scholarship.

Mauro parred the following nine holes and then birdied 14, 15 and 16 to finish three shots ahead of second place finishers Aidan Webster and Jax Sisson.

"Overall it felt great to get back out and compete again".

Jasmine Ly shot a two-under par 69 to win the Collegiate Women’s division while Garrett Day outlasted Josh DiCarlo for a one-stroke win the Collegiate Men’s Division
