Lancers off to best start in 16 years

The Lancer women’s volleyball team swept TMU on back-to-back nights to improve to 6-0 — their best start since opening 4-0 in 2009. “It’s been a lot of fun,” said interim head coach Drew Foster. “Just trying to enjoy the ride, the wave.”

Windsor took Friday’s match 3-0 and looked firmly in control again Saturday, going up 2-0 before TMU pushed back. The Bold built an early 11-3 lead in the third set, but the Lancers clawed their way back. A well-timed dump by fourth-year setter Danika Scharff pulled the set even at 13, prompting a TMU timeout.

The break didn’t slow Windsor. The Lancers kept rolling and closed out the set 25-17.

“We have a veteran-laden team,” Foster told Powerplay Sports. “It feels like it’s been a few years in the making. This core has made it their mission to achieve their goal this year, no matter what. Their focus has been incredible — very business-like and fun to be around.”

Windsor sits second in the OUA behind Brock (7-1) and remains the conference’s only unbeaten team. They visit Western next weekend to face the 3-3 Mustangs, who have split weekends against Guelph (5-1), Brock (7-1), and McMaster (5-1).

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
