Mitton sets Canadian record in return to Windsor

Sarah Mitton was the talk of the Can-Am Classic Friday night at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse. The former Lancer standout opened the shot put event throwing a Canadian Indoor record of 19.40 metres.

"I knew coming here would give me a little bit of a boost but I didn't think it was going to give me that big of a boost."

After two faults and a couple of sub-19 metre throws Mitton entered the final round and popped a throw of 19.80 metres to the delight of onlookers.

"I have a habit of pulling out something on my last throw these days and I just said I might as well go for it on the last one." said the 26-year old.

An unforgettable 2022 season saw Mitton win gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in the UK with a throw of 19.03m and at the NACAC Championships in the Bahamas at 20.15m.

Setting the Canadian record twice during the same meet has the 2020 Olympian excited for the upcoming season.

"This year we have world champs again in August so like to be throwing 19.80 right now I feel like that puts me in a really good situation."
