Saints football tested

The St. Clair men's football team improved to 6-0 with a 28-26 win over the Ottawa Sooners Saturday night. "Ottawa played really well." said head coach Mike Lachance. "It's good for the team to be playoff tested going in. You're not going to get 60 point blowouts in the playoffs normally. Gonna have to grind out some drives, get some stops late so it was good for us for sure. It'll be a building block."

MJ Doyle-Marshall rushed for 93 yards on 15 carries. Matthew Guenette was 6-8 for 54 yards and a touchdown. Maurice went 6-11 for 98 yards including a 40 yard pass to Dayshawn Johnson.

The team heads to Hamilton next Sunday to take on the Hurricanes before closing out the season at home against Quinty October 7th.

The men's soccer team is hitting their stride following two weekend wins at Redeemer and Mohawk. Head coach Mike Baraslievski's team is 3-0-1 to start the season with a pair of games at home next weekend against Niagara and perrenial powerhouse Humber (3-0-2).

"I told them after the game it's the team I envisioned before the season started and it's taken til the fourth game to really put it all together."

The women's soccer team wasn't as fortunate. After starting the season 2-0 the Saints tied Redeemer before losing their first game of the season at Mohawk 3-0. "Big welcome to the league to all my rookies." head coach Steve Vagnini said of his team that boasts 16 first year players. "Need to play much smarter against veteran teams."

The softball team continued their assault on the OCAA with five more wins. The Saints swept Lambton Friday while beating Durham and Fanshawe Saturday. They closed out the weekend with a 17-1 win over Mohawk Sunday afternoon. St. Clair allowed nine runs while scoring 63. They return home for a doubleheader at the Sports Park Wednesday night against Fanshawe.

The women's soccer team at the University improved to 4-1-1 with a 2-1 win over Brock Sunday afternoon. Olivia Corraza and Kailyn Robertson, with her team leading 7th goal of the season, scored for the Lancers who head to Guelph Friday night.

The St. Clair men's baseball team took three out of four this weekend losing their first game of the season Saturday afternoon to Durham 17-10. The Saints are 8-1 and trail league leading Humber (9-2) by a game in the standings. "It was an eye opener weekend for our veterans to see that there are a lot of new guys they want their playing time and we have a team where I can look on the bench and I have lots of options. It was a good thing for our coaches to see we can rely on those guys and they're going to get the job done."
