Stars fall short, "A little disappointed."

There's nothing like winning a championship. The Windsor Stars senior men's baseball team knows the feeling after winning the provincial title at home earlier this month.

Unfortunately the team couldn't replicate the feeling at nationals. They opened with 3-1 wins over Alberta and Nova Scotia and had a 3-0 lead over Quebec heading into the 7th inning of their third game. Quebec put up three to send the contest into extras where they eventually won 5-3. "I think the loss to Quebec going 11 innings and using four pitchers was the worst scenario for us." said head coach Ron Smith.

The Stars rebounded with a 13-3 win over Newfoundland Saturday. In the round robin nightcap they faced Manitoba and fought back from a 5-1 deficit to tie things up in the bottom half of the 2nd inning. "I thought we would continue to put pressure on them." Smith said. Instead it was Manitoba that continued to apply the pressure as they went on to win 9-7. Windsor had 10 hits and committed four errors failing to qualify for Sunday's playoff round. "A little different feeling not playing in the medal round. A little disappointing in that we didn't play to our capabilities." said Smith. "Otherwise, a great season and very proud of these young men. They fought hard all season and supported each other. Hopefully they are all back and take a run at it again next year."
