updated: Rosalind Canty headlining boxing show

Rosalind Canty laced up her gloves for the 11th time in five weeks in Oakville last night and beat Etobicoke's Shahista Lalani at Summer Smash hosted by the Oakville Boxing Academy.

Canty improved her record during the current stretch to 10-1. She is set to box as the headliner Saturday night at the Border City Boxing's club show starting at 7. "It's cool. I told a bunch of people I know." said Canty.

The 19-year old has been boxing for a year and a half since deciding not to leave home to play post-secondary soccer in 2022. "I played soccer for a long time so of course I miss it but I really really like boxing.

The Sandwich grad has won 17 fights while losing five to tough opponents. She feels her hard work is playing off during this recent stretch. "I've been fighting super tough opponents that are more experienced than I but because of my training, the way I train and the coaches that I have, of course and my teammates, I've done super well against them."

Eight fights are scheduled at the boxing club featuring athletes from various local clubs and beyond. "Obviously to get them better. There's fight coming up. Tournaments. Provincials soon." said Border City Boxing's head coach Andre Gorges. "They're ready to fight. It's gonna be a great show."
