A glimpse into Windsor's bright lacrosse future.

The Windsor Warlocks U11 rep team made the lacrosse community proud recently by winning gold at the provincial championships, capping off a season of perseverance and notable development.

Their triumph isn’t just a championship win—it’s a promising sign for the future of Windsor lacrosse.

Building a Culture of Success

Led by head coach Jamie Pillon, the Warlocks began working towards excellence when the ball dropped on the new calendar year. Their focus? Fundamentals and building chemistry.

“We started training camp back in January to work on fundamentals and getting to know the kids better,” said Pillon. “We started off our season on a high note, but things started to fall apart. As coaches, we stuck with the game plan and kept working hard with the kids.”

That perseverance paid off when it mattered most.

A Gritty Path to Gold

At the provincial championships, the Warlocks turned up the intensity.

“Come Provincials, we knew we had to work hard on defense, battle for every ground ball, and be disciplined,” Pillon told Powerplay Sports.

The team rattled off six straight victories—including three round robin wins, a quarter-final victory, and an epic comeback in the semifinals. Down 3-1, the Warlocks scored late to make it 3-2 and tied the game with just 3.5 seconds left in regulation before securing a dramatic double-overtime win.

In the finals against Burlington, the Warlocks sealed the deal with a 6-5 win, clinching gold in the "C" division.

Standout Performances

The Warlocks were defensively dominant, allowing just 15 goals across six games—the lowest goals-against average in the tournament.

Goaltender Carter Pillon was a “wall between the pipes,” according to Pillon, and Kingston Garcia led the team in scoring.

Looking Ahead

Coach Pillon believes this win is about more than just one tournament.

“Windsor lacrosse is trying to bring forth a new lacrosse culture,” he said.

With players from this championship team showing early signs of excellence, some may one day suit up for the Windsor Clippers Junior B team.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
