Alyssa Tanini of Villanova was one of the day's headliners, setting a new SWOSSA record in the junior girls 80m hurdles. Running 11.56 seconds, she bested the previous mark set in 2024 by a tenth of a second.

"My goal for the race was to get out hard and have big arms in between each hurdle." said Tanini who is looking forward to OFSAA. "Keep that momentum going. Trying to keep that speed going through the next couple of meets."

Despite the record-breaking run, Tanini had to settle for silver in the 100m, where Andrea Chronopoulos of Sandwich edged her out with a time of 12.59 seconds.

In distance events, Chase Capes of Sarina St. Patrick's put on a dominant display in the senior boys 1,500m, finishing in 3:53.28 to obliterate a mark that had stood since 2010 — shaving more than six seconds off Daryl Smith of Massey's long-standing record of 3:59.17.

"It felt pretty good," Capes told Powerplay Sports. "My coach said we'd go out a little slower and try to close hard the last couple of laps. I think it went pretty good for what I was trying to do. I think I'm ready for OFSAA now. That was a good confidence booster."

Capes added he'd like to run another quick 1,500 at OFSAA regionals.

The Sandwich Sabres junior girls relay team — Serene AlGhazaly, Andrea Chronopoulos, Julia Carswell, and Adedolapo Adekanye — celebrated together after breaking an 11-year-old 4×100m relay record by eight tenths of a second, capping a sensational individual and team day for the school.

"I think it went really well. We had good hand offs" Al Ghazaly said.

Carswell added, "I just think everybody was on their game today. Me and Serene ran good curves today. Happy about it."

Finally, Maelle Dufour of L'Essor led a remarkable sweep of the senior girls 2,000m steeplechase record, finishing in 7:13.72 — 22 seconds faster than the previous mark set in 2024. Notably, Dufour was one of five runners who surpassed the old record, underlining the extraordinary depth of talent on display.

"It was a really fun race and it was also really intense because there was a lot of other fast competitors." said Dufour who hopes to make it to OFSAA in both steeple chase and the 3000m. "It's my fastest time for steeple so far and I felt really good during the race."

Noah Van Neck also shattered the jr. boys shot put record. Click link to see more.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
