YouTube stars test Leighton with tricky shootout

The Play For A Cure tournament took a break during the lunch hour for the Woody's Hoodies Shootout Challenge featuring YouTube stars Zac Bell and Pavel Barber. The dynamic duo got to challenge their trick shots against former NHL goalie Michael Leighton. "I had one guy do it in an all-star game. I literally went like this (lifted arms) and it hit my elbow. It's amazing what these guys can do with a puck." Leighton said.

The guys did well but so did Leighton who held his own against moves he never saw in the NHL. "He was phenomenal," Barber said of Leighton. "He made those reads well. He told us he saw some of our moves before so I think he did a great job of scouting and he did a phenomenal job in net for sure."

Check out the shootout in the video below brought to you by the St. Clair College Alumni Association.

Play For A Cure is a grassroots Pro-Am hockey tournament raising funds for local cancer research through the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund. The event started with a draft Thursday night at Caesars Windsor where it was announced $404,000 was raised leading up to this year's event. Through four events, beginning in 2019, Play For A Cure has raised about $1.6 million dollars.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
