'Big time pick up': Fazekas coming home

The St. Clair College Sportsplex is about to get louder. Kyle Fazekas has transferred from Humber and will join the Saints this fall. He'll bring with him a large group of supporters who were often louder than St. Clair fans when the Hawks visited Windsor.

"He's a big time pick up," said co-head coach Matt Sykes. "He's a two-way player. He can score the ball. He's a bulldog. He can defend multiple positions. We're thrilled to have him."

Fazekas, who won OFSAA silver at Kennedy in 2020, will reunite with former teammates Andrew Loyuk and Mazin Tia. In two season at Humber the 6'0" guard averaged 11 points per game in 34 contests and earned the West Sixth Man of the Year earlier this year.

His return adds another local player to the roster which was hard to do when Sykes and Brendon Seguin took over the program six years ago. "We couldn't keep a Windsor kid." Sykes said. "Now it's becoming more local based.

St. Clair finished first in the OCAA West last season with a 15-3 record but failed to bring home any hardware at provincial. The Saints lost to Durham in the bronze medal game a year after winning gold at home and a silver the year before that. They either come back or don't want to leave. We're happy. It's nice to play with the home grown talent."

Sykes says the timing is right as Fazekas is expected to slot in nicely and fill the void left by the graduation of Jesiah Deerr.

"Having him and Drew (Loyuk) together, it'll be a tough combo to guard." Sykes told Powerplay Sports.
