Brazier wins EK tournament

Bennett Brazier now part of Windsor-Essex golf history after today's win at the Essex Kent Tournament.

The 16-year old who plays out of Beach Grove beat Noah Turner in match play 6-up with 5 to go to win the championship flight. In doing so he becomes the first junior golfer to win both the Essex-Kent and Jamieson Junior Golf Tour in the same summer.

"My drive was really good today. I stuck some wedges really close. He's a great player and a nice guy to play against. It was fun." said Brazier who joins his place in history with Tyler Hurtubise (2019), James Hill (2017), Michael Pinnsonneault (2009) and Jordan Batten (2004).

Three players in the last seven seasons have won both events. "It goes to show you how good the players are now. How strong the Jamieson Tour is when it comes to junior development." said Dave Deluzio, head golf professional at Roseland. "They're taking their game from that into big tournaments like here at Roseland in the Essex-Kent and winning titles at a young age. It's pretty impressive."

Brazier has club championshp coming up along with the high school season and plans to play in an event in Florida this winter.

Turner is proud of the way he has played this summer. "My game is pretty solid." said the 14-year old. "I hit a couple of rough spots during the year but kinda managed through those. I've kinda progressed a little bit this year this season."
