Cole Davis, "outstanding for us"

Cole Davis is looking to continue his goal scoring streak Wednesday night as the Windsor Spitfires take on the Flint Firebirds. The rookie forward scored in ties against Saginaw and Sarnia before the new year. "I think he's been outstanding for us." said interim head coach Casey Torres. "He's a skilled, smart, competitive player and I think he's only going to get better in his time here."

Davis was at the top of the rookie scoring race in early December but he went into a bit of a funk going pointless in five games.

"We had a chat a couple of days ago at practice just about trying to get back, get that one goal and the monkey off your back." Torres said.

He is 4th in OHL rookie scoring with 12 goals and 22 points in 34 games. "It's an honour to be in the conversation. " said the 17-year old. "I just focus on working hard, preparing for every practice and playing my game. I have a lot of great teammates and coaches around me who help me every single day."

A former LaSalle Viper, Davis credits last year's experience for preparing him for this season. "It was my first time away from home." said the Sutton, Ontario native. "The team treated me like family. Playing a prominent role for the team really helped me develop my game and build my confidence.

Davis scored 24 goals and had 46 points in 47 games as a 16-year old. He chipped in 2 goals and 2 assists in eight playoffs games. "It was a crucial step in my hockey career which helped me make the jump to the OHL. I'm very thankful to the VIpers organization."

The OHL announced their Academic Players of the Month for December Wedesday afternoon and Davis, along with Carter George of Owen Sound, Parker Von Richter of Mississauga and Peterborough's Carson Cameron, were recognized for their scholastic achievements. He currently has an 82% average across three grade 12 university-level courses as a student at St. Anne.

Davis was also named OHL rookie of the month for November.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
