Corriveau honoured

For the second year in a row, Kevin Corriveau has been named the OCAA Golf Coach of the Year. "Humbling. It's really nice," said Corriveau who recently guided the men's team to an incredible surge toward a gold medal finish at the provincial championship earlier this week.

"I chalk it up to good kids, good coaches, great support from the college. It's not me, it's the team. Put everybody's name on it."

The men's team brought home the program's first ever gold medal in the school's 57-year history. Spencer Higginbottom placed 3rd and earned a bronze medal.

"Felt great," said the Lakeshore Canadiens grad. "I think as a team we’ve been getting better every event and it was only a matter of time before we broke through and won an event."

The men were in third place after the second round at the Barrie Country Club trailing Humber by seven strokes and Fanshawe by six before catching fire on the final day.

"Definitely give credit to all the guys for sticking with it on the last day," Higginbottom told Powerplay Sports. "Coming down the final stretch anything can happen in a golf tournament so I think we did a good job of staying patient and trusting each other."

"None of this is possible without the support of our coaching staff, especially head coach Kevin Corriveau. He’s been on board here with the Saints golf team for a lot longer than any of us and I couldn’t be happier to be apart of this team."

The women brought home team silver as Villanova grad Alyssa Cowling finished 5th and L'Essor grad Justine Gorham placed 6th.

Higginbottom, Steven Hill and Cowling qualified for the 2025 Golf Ontario Amateur Championships. The men's team along with Cowling and Gorham will be heading to the RedCrest Golf Club in King City October 15th for the CCAA national champoinships.
