A special moment for Gahima in final home game

The final year of Megan Gahima's volleyball career has not gone as planned with injuries limiting the middle blocker to eight matches. "The whole team has been really supportive throughout the whole year and especially with the second injury."

A seperated should has effectively ended her season but in a classy move, the Lancers gave the EJ Lajeunesse grad the opening serve in their final regular season match at home Saturday night. "I'm really excited to at least get the serve in right? Get something on the court before my time's up." Gahima said.

"It's exciting to be able to do that for her," said head coach Lucas Hodgson.

"She deserves it."

"She's been a great teammate, a great leader on this team. Helped turn this team around, the culture and everything which is awesome. For us so to be able to give something back is exciting."

Before the serve, The Lancers honoured Gahima and four other graduating seniors; Yaila Sealy, Nicole Woelk, Olivia Foley and Lia DeGirolamo. "We've been through this whole experience together," Gahima said. "It's just so sad. It's our time."

Following the pre-game ceremony Gahima was introduced and lined up for the opening serve. She delivered an overhand serve that was retrieved by York but the Lions coudn't convert the return. Gahima raised her arm in triumph while her teammates burst out in cheer. Check out the moment below.

The Lancers won the match 3-2 to extend their winning streak to four games. They improve to 6-12 on the season and kept alive their hopes for a post season berth.

Gahima is set to graduate from Neuroscience in the spring and used the word resilience when describing what the program has instilled in her. "The resilience we've shown through every single game, our record doesn't even reflect it," Gahima noted. "The work we've put in it's honestly so crazy to stick through all of that. Ya, the resilience on this team is crazy. That's the biggest thing I think can take away into any path I go into."
