Grade 10 setting Clippers up for success

Kennedy sr. boys volleyball head coach Andrew Papadopoulos really likes what he's getting out of his grade 10 setter Kyle Trieu so far this season. "Kyle's a real gamer. He knows how to lock in. He plays like a senior already."

His leadership was in full display Tuesday against Catholic Central. Trieu was the player setting the tone for the Clippers and engaging the spirit of his teammates between points in a 2-1 loss to the Comets.

"It feels good getting the kill when I set the ball. Sometime the passes don't go so well but I still make it work with the choices I have." Trieu told Powerplay Sports.

Papadopoulos feels Trieu is already one of the best setters in the league and there's still a lot of ceiling to hit with his rookie. "Yours truly did a little setting in WECSSAA back in his day and I'm just looking to pass on some good knowledge to him." said Papadopoulos, a 2016 Clippers grad.

He points out Trieu, who is still new to the game, is now playing club with Sky Volleyball and has brought that experience and energy to Kennedy, who fell to 2-1 on the season Tuesday following a spirited (19-25, 25-19, 22-25) match against the Comets.

"We have really good chemistry. We like playing together."

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
