Hurtubise repeats as jr. boys champ (updated)

Tyler Hurtubise didn't win the season finale at Kingsville Monday afternoon but he did walk away as the Jamieson Jr. Golf Tour's overall jr. boys champ. The Pointe West golfer finished in a three-way tie with 17-year old fired a Aidan Webster and Grant Baker firing an even-par 72. Alek Mauro was the top golfer with a 4-under 68 that included seven birdies on the day.

Jax Sisson of Ambassador earned the Nick Zec Award (top under-16 finisher on the tour) after finishing second in the overall standings.

Kyla Charlebois and Kennedy Fremlin both fired a 79 but Charlebois took the overall jr. girls title over Fremlin by a point and a half. "It feels amazing to finally win" said Charlebois who closed out the season with three straight wins. "It's great to see the work pay off. I had a few rounds this year that were not my best but I bounced back with a few low rounds that helped me take the title". Karolyn Rombouts or Maple City finished third overall.

Winning follows Holy Names grad Jasmine Ly as she earned her fourth win in as may starts after firing a 74. Erin Kopinak of Delaware State/Willow Ridge who finished the year with 28 points to win the overall title beating Brooke MacKinnon (Hartford/Maple City) by one point, and Gioia DiCiocco (Erie Shores) by 3.5 points.

James Hill continued his winning ways shooting a 68 to win the event and claim the overall Collegiate Mens’ Division. "I'm really hapy with how I played in all of the Jamieson events this year" said Hill who beat Alex Saroli by three-and-a half points. "Highlight of the day was definitely my birdie on hole 7 on the golf 9. It was a really tough hole into the wind and it was a nice bonus to get one on the hole. This gives me confidence going into my upcoming college golf season (Detroit Mercy)".

In a season-ending release Jamieson Tour officials shared their gratitude for a successful summer while in the midst of a pandemic.

The Jamieson Junior Tour would like to extend a huge thank you to our main sponsors - Jamieson Vitamins and Circle of Seven - for their continued support of the tour, along with the support of Tim Horton’s. We are also extremely thankful for the support from our golf courses and their staff for hosting our tour, and making the necessary adjustments due to COVID-19. Lastly, but certainly not least, we would like to thank all of our on-course marshals, and tour volunteers and director for their tireless work in preparing for this (unusual) golf season.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

John Fairley, St. Clair College

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
