John Nelson steps down: 'All good things come to an end'

John Nelson is stepping down as general manager of the LaSalle Vipers.

"All good things come to an end," Nelson told PowerplayWindsor.com. "And it doesn't matter if it's sport, or life, or friends, or situations."

Nelson said the move is about personal matters he needs to attend to, not any conflict inside the organization. "There was nothing going on inside. It was healthy inside," he said, when asked if internal friction resulted in his decision.

He is having a hip replaced this week. "Got to get myself fixed up here and take care of a couple personal things in the next two or three weeks," he said.

Looking back, Nelson said he hopes he leaves the organization better than he found it: "I hope I left the Vipers in a better situation than when I took it over, and I feel like I did that."

Nelson says he isn't shutting the door to a return to hockey once healed but it'll be under the right conditions. "It's got to be fun. If I feel like it's a proper situation and the people are good people that I'm going to be dealing with, that's something I would definitely consider."

As for the organization, Nelson said he doesn't know who will replace him. "I don't know what the plan is on the inside,"

The Vipers host Chatham Wednesday in an exhibition game against the Maroons.
