Willson praises Johnson's showing at NFL Combine (video)

Windsor's Theo Johnson delivered a performance for the ages at the NFL Combine Friday. Johnson put up a 9.99 our of 10 which ranks him second among tight ends on the RAS All-Time list behind Zack Kuntz (Old Dominion-New York Jets). LaSalle native Luke Willson is on the AllTime list at 9.92 as is Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell with a score of 9.83.

"I thought he dominated the combine," Willson told Powerplay Sports. "To be his size and be able to move like that is truly special. And it wasn't just one good event. Everything went super well. I hope Seattle picks him."

Johnson clocked a 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, second fastest by a tight end behind Washington's Devin Culp. The Holy Names grad was second in the broad jump (10'6") and verticle (39'.50"). He also ran the fastest 20-yard shuttle at 4.19 seconds and was fifth in the 3-cone drill with a time of 7.15 seconds.

He didn't have eye-popping numbers at Penn State but his performance in Indianapolis will undoubtedly boost his stock for the upcoming NFL Draft in Detroit.

Willson remembers his chats with a young Johnson at Holy Names and tells Powerplay Sports he is extremely impressed. "It's not easy to make the transition to American football. Beyond the actual football there is a complete different culture within the sport. Clearly Theo navigated that extremely well and has put himself in a great position."
