Jones shoulders blame for failed season

"I have never dealt with this in my sports career as a player and then as a coach." said Windsor Express head coach Bill Jones following his team's quick exit from the NBL of Canada playoffs. "I'll bounce back. I'll be a better Bill Jones."

In 21 games the Express won a franchise low four times and were swept in the opening round of the playoffs.

Down 0-2 in the best-of-seven first round series against London, Windsor watched an 11-point fourth quarter lead turn into a two-point loss. The Lightning scored 33 points in the final frame. Windsor didn't help themselves by shooting 17-27 from the charity stripe while London shot 33-44 from the free throw line.

Despite the failures on the court Jones says he enjoyed this year's team. "I will be forever grateful for this group. Best group in terms of young men that we've coached but at the end of the day we didn't get it done."

The shortcomings on the court were overshadowed by team success off the court. According to league commissioner Audley Stephenson Windsor had three games this season break into the club's top 10 for highest attended games in franchise history.

"We did some great things in our community again and being able to surpass our record for fans in attendance it was a good year on the business side." Said Jones. "But basketball we just didn't get it done and it all falls on me."
