Kennedy Clippers Crowned OFSAA AA Champions in Pembroke

PEMBROKE, ON – The Kennedy Clippers are bringing provincial gold back to Windsor.

In a dominant display of depth and defensive grit, the Clippers captured the OFSAA AA basketball championship today, defeating Nottawasaga Pines 67-46 in the final.

Knocking Off the Top Seed

The path to the gold was paved by an intense semi-final clash against the top-seeded Saint Paul from Niagara. In a back-and-forth thriller, the Clippers trailed 49-38 at the half before coming back in the second to pull off the upset with a 68-56 victory.

"The semi-final was intense," Associate Coach Christian Seguin told Powerplay Sports. "After trailing at half we tightened up on defence and didn't allow a point for four straight minutes. This team prides itself on defence and Mike (Harrington, head coach) has always preached out-working the opponent and prioritizing defensive effort."

A Balanced Attack Secures Gold

The championship final saw Kennedy’s trademark speed eventually overwhelm Nottawasaga Pines. While the contest began as a physical battle, the Clippers’ balanced offense proved too much to handle in the 67-46 win. Eldin Hassan led the scoring with 13 points, while Manny Dakbai and Hamza Sullivan each chipped in with 12.

"The finals was a battle to start but our speed took over," Seguin noted. "It was a total team win and all the guys chipped in."

Depth Overcomes Grueling Schedule

Playing five games in three days is a massive physical undertaking. Seguin credited the team's deep rotation, including Kenson Joseph and Hamza Sullivan, for helping the Clippers seal the gold medal.

"The goal all year was to play in the OFSAA final, and the fact that we’re leaving Pembroke with a gold is a great feeling," Seguin said. "The ultimate goal is now complete, and it’s a credit to these kids and Mike’s message and mentorship."

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
