Kennedy clips Tecumseh Vista to win AA title

Both the Kennedy Clippers (3-6) and Tecumseh Vista Vortex (4-5) played up in the Tier 1 division this season and faced bigger schools like Sandwich, St. Anne and Holy Names. They didn't rack up a lot of wins but they did with more points for than against. Both teams were tuned up and faced each other for the AA final Sunday at the St. Clair College Sportsplex. For Tecumseh, this was the first sr. boys basketball final in program history. "I'm super proud of them for making it here and playing as hard as they did to the last buzzer." said Vista head coach Melanie Cardinal.

The game was a tight affair with the game heading into the half with Kennedy leading 27-23. The Clippers didn't break away from the Votex until late in the game when Jesse Mofat hit a 3-pointer with three minutes to go giving them a 52-44 lead.

Trailing by 11 with under a minute left Filip Malovic energized the crowd with a long distance jumper but the Clippers would go on to win 63-53. They'll host the SWOSSA championship at the Clipperdome Friday against Great Lakes. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30.

Check out Mofat's three, Malovic's long shot and post game interviews in the video below.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That brought me to the upcoming season that was going to be overlooked due to cuts to legacy media.

I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project and to continue showcasing local athletes and our vibrant sports community.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter.

Bob Bellacicco: Founder

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
