Kingsville's Madeline Young Heads to Canadian Junior Girls Championship After Strong Finish

Madeline Young capped off her time on the Unico Primo Jr. Golf Tour with a strong performance at Rochester Place on Thursday.

The 17-year old won event #9 carding a 73. "Pretty good. Hit a lot of fairways, greens. Wasn't too complicated, so that was good," Young said of her round.

With two events left on the tour, Young is sad she'll miss but looks forward to playing at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship from August 10-14th at TPC Toronto.

"I'm disappointed I can't come to Beach Grove and Kingsville, but I gave it my best shot. Finished on a good one, so it's all I can ask for," Young told Powerplay Windsor. "It's nice to get a good one under my belt. Feel confident going into the next tournament."

Young, who plays out of Kingsville Golf and Country Club, has been swinging a club since she was five years old, 11 years of experience she's bringing into the biggest test of her season.

Next week's championship will be a step up in scale from anything she's played before.

"It's my biggest event this year. I think there's 140 in the field. There's two days and then there's a cut," Young explained. "So it's a big one. I'm very excited for it."

Growing the Game at St. Ann's

After next week, Young will focus on high school golf at St. Anne where she is the lone girl on the team, a fact she hopes will change.

"There's a lot of boys. Hopefully, maybe in grade nine, there's some new ones."
