Knights boys win OFSAA bronze (with video)

It's not the colour they wanted but the Holy Names sr. boys soccer team won their last game of the season to earn provincial bronze. "We were so close in the semi-final. All we had to do is just turn around, you know, be a goldfish as Ted Lasso says." said Aaron Thwaites who scored the game tying goal in dramatic fashion.

The Knights trailed 1-0 at St. Clair College Acumen Stadium when Marquise Markiewicz touched a soft pass to a streaking Thwaites who pounded home the tying goal in the last minute of regulation. "I guess we just hold on. Tire everyone out and then we capitalize on our opportunities late." Thwaites said whose team scored with two minutes left in last night's quarter-final game against Georgetown's Christ the King to advance to the semi finals.

It looked as though the contest was headed to penalty kicks when Markiewicz found a streaking Alessio Pizzuto for the game winner. Pizzuto got behind the Michael Power defence and tapped in the clincher with less than 30 seconds left as Holy Names held on to beat their opponents from Etobicoke 2-1.

"Best moment of my life." said Pizzuto. "Best feeling. Honestly not for myself but for my seniors. Those are my brothers. My family so just to let them out with a bronze medal is, amazing moment."
