Four days after a tough loss on home ice, the University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team bounced back in a big way.
Windsor edged the Mount Royal Cougars men's hockey team 4–3 Thursday at the Scotiabank Centre, taking a major step forward at the U SPORTS Men's Hockey Championship in Halifax.
It wasn’t easy. The Lancers were outshot heavily, but goaltender Max Donoso came up big with 38 saves, while Alex Cunningham scored twice, including the winner. A quick pair of third-period goals from Jacob Boucher and Brady Hinz gave Windsor the spark they needed, as they held on to advance in the tournament.
Call it a statement win for a team that was still stinging from that loss to UQTR in the Queen's Cup last Saturday. Now they are suddenly one win away from playing for a medal. They’re back on the ice Saturday at noon EDT in the semifinal.
