The University of Windsor Lancers men's hockey team got a valuable test from NCAA competition this weekend.

The Lancers hosted Lake Superior State for a pair of exhibition games, winning 3-2 in a shootout Friday night in LaSalle before dropping a 5-2 decision Saturday afternoon in Essex.

Captain Logan Linklater says games like these show a team exactly where it stands.

"When you schedule these games, you know teams like Lake Superior are going to reveal some areas of growth that we need, and they did," Linklater said. "We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend."

He was proud of how the Lancers found a way to win Friday and battled to the end on Saturday.

"We played a real good NCAA team, and we've got a very good U Sports team," he said. "I'm excited about where this team is headed. If we continue to get better and understand that there's still some growth to do, it's going to be a great year."

Windsor finished last season with an 18-7-3 record and lost to UQTR in the Queen's Cup Final.

The Lancers open their regular season Friday night against Lakehead at home in the newly renovated Adie Knox Arena. Puck drop is 7:30pm.
