The Lakeshore Canadiens host game one of the Schmalz Cup semi-finals Sunday at 4:30pm against Tavistock. The Canadiens have had a week off and enter the series healthier than they were at the end of the Mt. Brydges series. "Any team that's been through four rounds of hockey, especially two seven game series having a week off is definitely nice to rest, heal up a little bit and reset.

Here's a look at the schedule for the round.

Saints bring in local talent

Julie Ann Milling knew she had work to do during the off-season to restock her volleyball team with up to ten players leaving. The head volleyball coach of the women's team at St. Clair filled the bulk of the vacancies with six players: Lauren Livingston (Lajeunesse), Annie Seagris (Sandwich), Malak Tiea (Kennedy), Audrey Strong (Belle River),  Gabby Mohart (Dundas Valley) and Presley Fox (Joan of Arc).

Livingston is a 5'8" left side from Windsor with extensive club experience at South County. She’ll be entering the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Seagris is a 5'11" left side from Amherstburg who also played club with South County. She’ll be taking Fitness & Health Promotion.

Tiea is a 6'5" middle from Windsor with club experience at Rose City. She’s entering the Border Services program.

Mohart is a 5'5" libero from Dundas with club experience at Smash Raiders. She’ll be taking the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Fox is a 6'2" middle from Barrie with club experience across Barrie Elites and Storm. She’ll be entering Early Childhood Education.

St. Clair finished the regular season 14-2 capturing their first West Division title since 1997 en route to winning their second straight OCAA silver medal.

DiPietro an AHL All-Star

Former Windsor Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro is having the best season of his pro hockey career with the AHL's Providence Bruins and was acknowledged this week as a First-Team All-Star.

In 44 games, the Amherstburg native has a 34-7-1 record with a 1.88GAA and .931 save percentage. He also has three shutouts.

The Detroit Tigers had their six game winning streak snapped in Boston Friday night in a 1-0 extra innings loss to the Red Sox. The Tigers are 10-10 heading into Saturday's 4:10pm matinee. They close out the series Monday and return home to face Milwaukee Tuesday.

Here's a great play by rookie stud Kevin McGonigle at third base.

The Detroit Pistons open the playoffs at home Sunday night against the Orlando Magic at 6:30pm. The Pistons are the top seed in the East and will host the first two games of the series. The Magic dominated the Charlotte Hornets 121-90 Friday night to advance. Detroit and Orlando split their four regular season meetings this season. The winner of this series will face the winner of the Toronto-Cleveland series.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
