The OCAA annouced Steve Vagnini was named coach of the year while he was at practice with his team at Acumen Stadium. Powerplay Sports reached out for a comment and the first year coach was just walking off the field. "Aw, c'mon." Vagnini said completely surprised by the accolade. "C'mon man, there's so many good coaches out there. That's an honour. That's awesome. Just made my day."

The Saints enjoyed a turnaround season as Vagnini completely overhauled the team and added 16 rookies. They went from a 2-7-1 team a year ago to 7-1-2. Victoria Walsh is one of those first year players who finished 4th in league scoring with 26 points. She scored 11 goals and was named OCAA Rookie of the Year. "I'm extremely excited." said the Georgetown, Ontario native who is also a West Division First Team All-Star. "It means a lot. I worked really hard. It's a mind blowing experience that I get to actually do this."

Assist machine Alexa Mognon is also a first team all-star after leading the OCAA with 12 helpers this season. "Super grateful to the coaches on our team and to my teammates." said the Assumption grad. "They're the reason that happened. I'm proud of the team. I love playing here and I'm proud of myself for all the work I put in."

Scotlyn Fick, Layla Hutson and Brianna Kinsley-Clough were named to the West Division Second Team.

The Saints host Centennial College Saturday at noon. A win qualifies them for the provincial tournament. "We're young but I'm excited to see how far we can go." said Mognon.

On the men's side Moussa Nizam was named the OCAA men's soccer Player of the Year, West Division Scoring champ and West Division First Team All-Star. The Kennedy grad finished tied for second in the league with 13 goals.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
