Rematch it is: Lancers vs UQTR Saturday
It's the match up the Windsor Lancers were quietly hoping for. They'll host the UQTR Patriotes Saturday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex in a rematch of the 2023 championship final.
The Lancers punched their ticket to the OUA title game beating the TMU Bold 3-1 Saturday night to clinch their best-of-three series 2-0.
Windsor has been one of the top teams in the OUA this season and will now look to capture the program’s first Queen’s Cup since 2014.
UQTR arrives after a dominant run through the OUA East. The Patriotes ran into a hot Queen's team and lost the first game of their OUA semi-final series. UQTR rebounded to win the next two including Sunday's 3-1 series clincher to advance.
Windsor still has a handful of players left over from the 2023 team that lost in triple-overtime at home on a fluke bounce. "I came in and we went to the Queen's Cup my first year and we lost." forward Keegan McMullen told Powerplay Sports. "To get back means a helluva lot in our last year."
Saturday’s matchup sets up a highly anticipated showdown between two of the league’s top programs, with the Queen’s Cup and a berth in the national championship tournament on the line.
