The Windsor Spitfires evened off their pre-season record with a 4-2 road win over the Soo Greyhounds. Sault Ste. Marie struck first when Travis Hayes opened the scoring late in the first period, but Windsor answered right back less than two minutes later on Andrew Robinson's goal.

Bogdan Yakushevsky made it 2-1 Spitfires early in the second on the power play. Ethan Garden's third-period tally proved to be the game-winner.

Quinn McKenzie's power-play goal got the Greyhounds to within a goal but Sam Wathier sealed it with an empty-net insurance marker in the final two minutes.

The St. Clair Saints Football team suffered their first loss since 2019 dropping a 42-15 decision in Sault Ste. Marie. The Cougars jumped all over the Saints and led 28-1 at the half.

The second half was not as dominant for the Sault. Nolan Bryans dropped a 55-yard TD catch into Nate Carter's bread basket to open the second half to give the Saints some life.

The Saints trailed 36-8 late when the Cougars put the game away. Emerson Peterkin toss a 47-yard strike to Rylan Varcoe who scored his fifth touchdown of the season.

Bryans scampered for a 22-yard TD to close out the scoring as St. Clair drops to 3-1. Sault College moves into sole possession of first place.

The Saints were held to 112 yards rushing and they conceded three safeties.

Next up: London at Acumen Stadium Saturday September 12th at 7pm.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That brought me to the upcoming season that was going to be overlooked due to cuts to legacy media.

I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project and to continue showcasing local athletes and our vibrant sports community.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter.
