'So far she's lighting it up': Admans killing opposition

Aliah Admans made it her mission to have a rebound year for the Windsor Lancers this season. "I had a very good first year but coming into second year was a bit of a rough patch for me and a lot of frustration." said the London, Ontario native.

As a rookie in 2022 Admans finished 8th in the OUA with 187 kills. Admans' production took a slight dip last season as teams keyed on her. She had 180 kills placing her 12th in the league.

"I had big blockers against me." Admans said.

She headed into the off-season and worked on cardio in order to transition faster off the net and have the stamina for long rallys. She did a lot of jump training to help keep her body flexible. A shift in diet was also part of the regiment.

"Eating as well as I can, trying to gain muscle so I can jump higher, can dive and move side to side faster."

All of it has translated into a strong start for the 3rd year hitter. Admans leads the OUA with 64 kills and is tied with teammate Aryn Markett for 4th with 43 digs. "

"So far she's lighting it up," Head coach Lucas Hodgson told Powerplay Sports. "She's playing so confident and it's not even just her attacking. Her defensive passing, our three passers are passing lights out. It's making it easier for our setter and for our offence to get going."

Admans has helped the Lancers get off to a good start. They are 4-0 and tied for first in the OUA with McMaster and Waterloo, a year after finishing 6-14. The Lancers have only dropped one set through the first two weekend's of the season. Hodgson talks with excitement about this year's team.

"This team keeps playing the same," Hodgson explained. "They don't really get phased like they used to in the past. Their ability to take care of business is better than it's ever been."

"I hope we keep winning games," Admans said. "The connections we have on the team, the girls are amazing. I think what we have going on right now, if we can keep that going that would just be the ideal thing."
