Spitfires look to find scoring touch

The Windsor Spitfires are back home Friday night at the WFCU Centre, and head coach Greg Walters knows exactly what his team needs to work on.

Through the first weekend of the season, the Spits dominated play against the London Knight, who came into the season ranked in the CHL Top 10. They outshot the Knights with only 18 shots hitting the Windsor net in each of the first two games. The problem? Windsor, with 12 new players, couldn't find the back of the net enough.

"We dominated both games, to be honest," Walters said. "We had shot them 30 to 18 and lost. We just got to find a way to score some goals."

The Spits spent the week hammering power play and offensive zone execution in practice, with Walters stressing the margin for error on a young roster is thin.

"Hockey's a game mistakes and that was kind of the what happened in the game is we'd have total control of the game. We make one mistake and it was in the back of our net. That's hockey. A lot of video, a lot of practice here this week and a lot of work on our offensive game."

Walters says he is hoping to have Andrew Robinson and Caden Harvey back from Edmonton Oilers camp this weekend.

Puck drops Friday night at the WFCU Centre against the Flint Firebirds.
