St. Clair earns third straight silver

The OCAA championship game started off looking like a bad matchup of undefeated teams. Humber came out strong shooting 57% and led 35-17 after the first quarter. The Hawks extended that lead to as much as 22 points in the second quarter but the Saints weren't going down like that.

St. Clair came out of a second quarter time out and started to pull the Hawks back to earth. They were able to knock the deficit to 15 by halftime. The Saints put the pedal to the metal in the third with a 13-0 run capped off by a nice pass from Keirsten Tomkins to a streaking Jessica Paolini in the paint. Her easy lay up pulled St. Clair to within one point at 65-64 with 2:53 left in the third.

Unfortunately they couldn't get that one bucket to get them over the hump. Nikki Ylagan dropped a three-pointer seconds later to calm St. Clair's surge. Ylagan was a force for Humber in a stellar performance that saw the Mississauga native score a game-high 34 points including eight treys. It was an epic playoff performance as she earned Humber's player of the game honours.

St. Clair's player of the game was Jana Kucera who finished with 26 points giving her 1,002 for her four year career as a Saint. "Jana, Logan and Keirs emerge as the most decorated women's basketball players ever in St. Clair history," said head coach Andy Kiss. "Three silver medals. That's quite an achievement in a college career."
