Successful return of WECSSAA all-star basketball

Doing a little spring cleaning and came across the WECSSAA all-star basketball game recently held at St. Clair's Sportsplex. It was an important moment for the boy's scene. "It's been sorely missed for roughly four, five years." said Greg Layson, one of the organizers through the St. Clair Jr. Saints program. "I'm glad it's back and I think after everything we've been through through Covid this is a great celebration of basketball.

The Tier 2/3 game saw Team Nantais Athletics beat Team Hogan's Printing 104-94. Odilon Kougnami of CCH scored 24 points, including 14 in the 4th quarter to cap off Team Nantais' comeback. Elijah Davis of Essex had 17 in the losing cause. His Red Raiders teammate Adrian Harrison dropped 33 points in the three-point contest.

In the Tier 1 game Team Nantais beat Hogan's Printing 107-94. Da'Marion Ennis of Holy Names led the winning team with 31 points. Mr. Basketball Rocco Awad of St. Anne pitched in 28. Austin Brown of Holy Names with 21 and Bryson Vonella of St. Joe's with 20 were the top scorers for Team Hogan's. Dan Cahur of St. Anne won the three-point contest with 37 points.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

John Fairley, St. Clair College

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
