The Windsor Lancers softball team faced a strong Western Mustangs squad Sunday afternoon in LaSalle. Solene DePape made a nice sprawling grab at shortstop during the first game but the Mustangs were too much to handle as they rolled to a sweep of the doubleheader and made some great plays in the process.
The Mustangs will be in Windsor next weekend for the CCSA national championship tournament being hosted by St. Clair College. The Saints went 4-0 this weekend with wins over Sheridan, Durham, Seneca and Humber. "We're gonna take 24-hours now to digest and crank it up and get refocused for Tuesday." said St. Clair head coach Doug Wiseman whose team is 18-0 and the top team in the OCAA. "We got tested this weekend. We're ready."
Play of the day goes to Elio Almeida of the GTA Grizzlies who vaulted over St. Clair defender Nathaniel Norton, who then gave him a hug after the play.
The Fratmen won the game 62-0 and finished the regular season 8-0. "Regular season is nice but it prepares you for the playoffs and hopefully we've done enough both mentally and physically." said Saints head coach Mike Lachance.
A league bye affords St. Clair an extra week to get healthy before playoffs begin October 15th at Acumen Stadium against Hamilton. Game time is 7pm. "They've given us some trouble so we have to prepare."
