Life is a balancing act for Findlay

Juggling two-sports is not new but there will always be admiration for those like Owen Findlay who can pull it off. "It tough right now." said Findlay who is the captain of the LaSalle Vipers and a third baseman for the St. Clair College baseball team. "A lot of time management that's for sure. The boys make it worth it. Battling hard. We're winning both sides baseball, hockey. It's a blast."

The 19-year old has practices and games while balancing his studies in the trades. "His schedule on the table is busting at the seems." said his mom Jenn. "Monday is his only day off and he didn't get outta bed yesterday." she said with a laugh.

Findlay leads all defencemen in the GOJHL with 9 assists and 10 points in 5 games. "It is impressive." said Vipers' head coach Chad Shepley. "These are two high quality sports that he's playing right now baseball and hockey and he's balancing both. He's been an awesome defenceman for us too and he's contributing offensively too for us so really impressed with his leadership right now.

His baseball coach is equally impressed. "On and off the field he's a great guy." said Roberto Duncan whose team is 12-1 this season. "He's a good example of a player that's a local kid that has a lot to offer to the younger kids and they look up to him."

Findlay helped the first place Vipers improve to 5-2 with a 7-4 victory over St. Thomas Wednesday night and will be honoured as a graduating player Thursday when the Saints host Lambton at Cullen Field. "Two years goes fast. Time flies when you're having fun. It's just fun winning."

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
