Erie Migration student-athlete balances basketball, cross country and tennis — with her sights set on acting

Grade 12 student Megan Wuerch is juggling three sports this season at Erie Migration, basketball, cross country and tennis, with basketball as her top priority and tennis close behind.

"It is a lot, but I make sure that I make it to practices for each of the three," Wuerch told Powerplay Windsor. "I do value basketball a little higher, but I try my best, and I'm really happy that I'm doing all three because it's a real honor for high school sports."

Wuerch used to play club tennis in Kingsville and club basketball when she was younger, but now plays strictly at the high school level. "I love them," she said of her basketball team. "The girls are so nice, and we've built a lot of friendships and connections, and we can always count on each other. There's no drama, it's just all friendship and kindness."

Off the court, Wuerch's focus is on acting. She's done two shows at her high school along with a performance for her grade 11 drama class, and is hoping to pursue acting lessons at a local school such as St. Clair College.

"I love doing plays and acting," Said Wuerch who appreciates being encouraged by a school teacher. "I want to go into acting lessons and stuff." Her goal, eventually, is to work as an actress, whether on stage or in film. "I love theater, like acting on a stage, but I would also love to do a movie too."

Asked what advice she'd give to the grades behind her heading into their own senior years, Wuerch didn't hesitate. "Go for it. Try new things. Try out for the sports. Make your grade 12 experience the best you can, because it won't be there forever."
