Trail Blazers Claim OHF U15A Championship in Dominant Fashion

Collingwood, ON —The Talbot Trail Blazers are champions after a flawless run at the OHF U15A tournament. The Blazers went undefeated, stringing together six consecutive wins to capture the title in dominant fashion.

Nash Fuerth scored twice to lead the Blazers to a 5-1 win over Sarnia in the final.

"We played our game," head coach Tony Youssef told Powerplay Sports. "We dumped the puck in and hounded them. We played hard as a team and smart hockey."

The team was a force on both ends of the ice, racking up 32 goals, 12 on the powerplay, while allowing just nine throughout the tournament. Their balanced attack and airtight defense left little doubt about who the top team was.

"Solid, smart defence that played together as a group. Really proud with how they played the body this weekend." Youssef said about his defence.

Here's a list of their accomplishments this season:

🏒 Bluewater U15 A Regular Season Champions

🏒 Bluewater U15 A Tournament Champions

🏒 Silver Stick Watford 15U A Champions

🏒 Silver Stick Port Huron International Finals Champions

🏒 OMHA Champions

🏒 OHF Champions

With the championship now in hand, the Blazers will enjoy a few well-earned days of celebration before lacing up again—tryouts for next season begin in early May.

Here's a write up we did prior to the tournament.

Resilient Squad Defies Odds, Wins OMHA Championship in Double OT Thriller

Windsor, ON — In a season defined by resilience and grit, The Talbot Trail Blazers U15 team pulled off a dramatic 5-4 double-overtime victory over Center Wellington to capture the OMHA Final in Whitby earlier this month.

“This group wasn’t expected to go far, but they never stopped believing,” Head Coach Tony Youssef told Powerplay Sports. “What inspires me most is the look on their faces. They’ve achieved something together that no one thought was possible.”

A year after losing in the finals the Blazers entered the season having graduated six players and losing another to injury. Expectations were tempered but yet the returning core found a way to reel off a 39-game win streak.

The Blazers finished the season with a 57-8-4 record under the guidance of Youssef and his assistants Dylan Impens, Zack Dillen, and Tyler Dillen. Managers Jen Foster and Tom Fuerth also contributed to the team's success.

The team is heading to the prestigious OHF championship tournament in Collingwood over Easter weekend. They'll face the Sarnia Jr. Sting in their first game of the tournament Friday at 9am.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
