The host team got off to a good start at the tournament with a 4-2 win over Maxwell Heights. They lost 5-2 to St. Aloysius Gonzaga in their second game to finish day one at 1-1. Villanova beat St. Michael's (Niagara Falls) Thursday morning to finish pool play at 2-1.

They advance to the quarter-finals where they faced the Brooklin Bears (Whitby area) Thursday afternoon in a game that went to overtime. Gianmarco Spizzirri notched his first goal of the tournament at 4:27 of the extra session to send the Wildcats to the semi-finals.

St. Anne fell 4-3 to Nantyn Shores in the final game of pool play Wednesday morning and were knocked out of medal contention losing to Father Bressani (Woodbridge) 4-3 in overtime in the afternoon session.

Update: Jack Lee scored his second goal of the tournament, and his second game winner, in overtime Thursday morning as Nantyr beat Villanova 3-2. The host Wildcats played for OFSAA bronze and beat Father Bressani from Woodbridge, Ontario 4-2.

"Our team had a great showing," Head coach Grant O'Keefe proudly told Powerplay Sports.

"We had a dominant quarter final win against the number one seed. We felt we were the better team in the semi finals, but came up short in overtime. In the end we had two losses in the tournament, both to the finalists. We are very proud of how we represented our school and the region. We only had three grade twelves, so we expect to be back next year."

St. Aloysius Gonzaga won gold with a 3-1 win over Nantyr Shores.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."
