Wiseman "completely surprised" by OCAA honour

Wiseman after winning CCSA gold

A few days after winning the Gerald Serviss Award as head coach of the year during the St. Clair Athletics banquet Doug Wiseman was bestowed the honour of OCAA coach of the year. "I was completely surprised. I wasn't expecting anything like that." Wiseman said. "Pretty humbling. It's nice to get the accolades but without the team's performance it doesn't happen."

The Saints have been a powerhouse program for over 15 years but 2022 was special. The signs were there early in the regular season when St. Clair outscored their opponents during the first weekend of play by a margin of 53-4. They finished with a perfect season (34-0) which saw them win the OCAA title and CCSA championship.

"The team was so collectively strong together. It was fun."

Wiseman says a big part of his success is a result of his coaching staff which includes his daughter Alex Wiseman. She has been by his side on the bench for the past eight seasons. "She keeps me in my lane and reminds that I'm the themometer of the team." chuckled Wiseman as he admitted to getting fired up from time to time. "She reminds me to stay level headed."

Wiseman will be honoured during the 10th OCAA Hall of Fame ceremony being held in Windsor May 1st.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
