Beck wins OFSAA silver

Madelaine Beck was just happy to qualify for the OFSAA golf championships this past week at Batteaux Creek Golf Club. "I went to Collingwood with no expectations." said the grade 9 L'Essor student. "I really liked the golf course and knew that I played well."

The 14-year old played so well she finished second and brought home a silver medal. "It was an amazing feeling." said Beck who had a two-day total of 167 which was seven shots behind gold medallist Sydney Gibson of Dunbarton High School in Pickering.

Beck shot an 86 landing her in 8th after the first day of play. She rallied on day 2 persevering through cold and windy conditions to shoot an 81.

Golfing since she was four years old, Beck says her time on the Jamieson Junior Golf Tour this summer helped her game. "I was able to play against more experienced girls and see how they handle tough moments, but also how they have fun while they are out there. Beck said. "It helped me to not be intimidated playing with girls that were 4 years older than me."
