Bosev flying as first time captain

After serving an assistant last year, Adrian Bosev knew there was a chance he could wear the 'C' on his shirt when the Leamington Flyers opened their second season in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. "I would have been happy if anybody got it," The Windsor native said. "But it's an honor that I got it and I hope I can lead this team and make an impact on them for their future."

This is the first time in Bosev's hockey career he's been the captain of his team. "It's a bit uncharted, but I think the biggest thing for me is just use my past captains to really use as a mentor and even make sure I'm doing the right thing with management and coaches."

Head coach Dale Mitchell says Bosev, who won a Sutherland Cup championship with the Flyers in 2023, has been a team first player since joining the organization. "He has been through lots of ups and downs during his time here and he has always put the team first." Mitchell said. "I am happy for the early success he has had offensively. He deserves everything he gets."

Bosev has had a strong start and is leading the way along with former Windsor Spitfires forward Colton Smith, who each have four goals and four assists after four games. The Flyers are tied with Trenton for the top spot in the league early in the season. "It's a little early to tell fully but we're gelling really, really well," The 19-year old told Powerplay Sports. "We've got a lot of good guys. No one's really been overconfident. I think it's really good."

The Flyers are 4-0 and lead the West Conference. They host (2-2) Niagara Thursday before heading to Collingwood to face the defending national champions Friday.
