Brown shines at OFSAA as Knights earn bronze

Austin Brown showed why he is one of the better players in the province this week as he helped lead Holy Names to a bronze medal at OFSAA in Hamilton. The Knights beat Eden High School 56-54 to finish third. "The pressure performances, as a grade 11, in his first OFSAA experience, gives our program hope we can get back next year and go for gold." said head coach Ryan Steer of Brown (pictured holding the banner) who scored 25 points in a 48-44 loss in the semi-finals to the top seed and eventual champion Oakwood CI.

#2 Holy Names opened the tournament with a 72-61 loss to #12 Eden but got wins over #5 St. Michaels and #13 Glebe CI to make it to the semis. "We battled hard every game and overcame adversity throughout, to earn our first Sr. boys Basketball medal at OFSAA," said Steer. "To be the second seed and have to face an under-seeded, home town team in the first round was a huge challenge. To be able to fight our way back to the medal round and beat them for bronze was quite an accomplishment."

WECSSAA's Mr. Basketball Arlind Avdo and Keilan Laporte led the Knights in the bronze medal game with 12 points apiece. Arnez Austin and Brown each had 11 for a Holy Names that relied on all five players on the floor this season for their deep run.

"Our success depended on all five guys playing as a team and we came together when it mattered most." Steer said.
