Canty becoming a bear

While on a trip to check out one school Roz Canty fell in love with another and will call New Jersey home in the fall of 2022. The 17-year old was on her way to visit The Citadel in South Carolina when she and her dad decided to drop in at Bloomfield College in New Jersey during a stopover. The school also showed interest in her soccer ability.

"I loved the school", said Canty. "It was so nice. Got to meet some of the girls that were on the team and the coach and it was awesome, a good experience".

The Sandwich Secondary student-athlete fell in love with the vibe at Bloomfield and its proximity to The Big Apple, "I'm taking expanded media because I want to go into screen writing and it's right near New York which is really cool", said Canty who looks forward to playing soccer for the Bears.

The defensive center-midfielder has played soccer since a young age but recently began training at Border City Boxing Club. Her mom, Margaret, is a former champion while her dad, Josh, is a former boxer and an accomplished coach. Despite the connection Canty didn't take up the sport until last November, "It's caught my attention super fast". Hear what she'll do about her new interest while in New Jersey in this video brought to you by Hogan's Printing.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That moment brought to mind the upcoming Windsor Lancers football camp and the many fall sports that would go uncovered due to cuts in legacy media sports coverage.

Recognizing this gap, and with the support of my loving wife and family, I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

Founded locally and operated locally, we blend traditional sports reporting with modern digital storytelling.

From high school athletics and post secondary programs to junior hockey and grassroots clubs, we shine the spotlight on the people who make our sports community vibrant.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter. See you soon.

"We celebrate all of the athletes within Windsor-Essex and their achievements reflected on Powerplay Sports."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."
