Ennis leads Knights to AAA crown

Da'Marion Ennis started off slow but played with some sauce scoring 13 of his 15 poitns in the second half to lead Holy Names to a convincing 70-40 win over St. Joe's Sunday night at the Toldo Recreation Centre.

The Knights faced an upstart St. Joe's team that won three straight to end the regular season with a 5-5 record. The Lasers carried that momentum to the semi-finals beating highly favoured St. Anne.

Ennis says they were not guarded against a team that had caught a groove. "We were prepared as a team." said the 17-year old. "We all know what we're going to do as a team and we don't take each other for granted. We know our roles."

Holy Names was quick out of the gate jumping out to a 21-5 first quarter lead. The Knights were keen on slowing Michael Ramos, who ended up with 11 points for St. Joe's. Bryson Vonella led the Lasers with 13 points.

The Knights will now face Urseline College in Chatham Friday night. The Lancers are led by grade 10 guard Caleb Roberts who won gold last year at the Canada 15U boys national championships and was ranked #1 in Canada in his age group.

"We played them before and we lost by seven and then we played them again here and we beat them by 40 but they didn't have their best player." said Ennis. "I want to play them again and as a team we want to do our best."
