Flyers celebrate championship with win

For the first time since May Ryan MacPherson reunited with his former Leamington Flyers teammates to celebrate their championship season. "It's great to reconnect and see everyone." said MacPherson who is playing for the Penticton Vees this season in British Columbia. "Everyone's gone different paths the last couple of month."

The organization rounded up the gang to hand out the bling created by Baron Championship Rings. Players from last year's team were introduced including fan favourite Bryce Walcarius who came out to a chorus of, "Wally, Wally."

"It's awesome." said Walcarius who playing at Norwich University in Vermont. "I didn't know what reception I would get on the ice. I got out there, heard a couple of chants of my name and it kinda made me reminicse over the past year. Miss it."

Leamington won the Sutherland Cup beating Stratford 4-0 on the road to bring the championship back to Essex-County for the first time since 2010.

Gabe Piccolo is in Essex playing for the Essex 73's who are atop the PJHL standings and hasn't seen many of his former teammates since winning the Sutherland Cup.

"To see all of them again and walk out on that ice that's something I'll always treasure for the rest of my life." Gabe Piccolo.

The current edition of the Flyers did their part to cap off the reunion by beating Burlington 2-1. All the scoring was done in the first period. Lucas Digiatommaso opened the scoring at the 10:25 mark for the visitors. Cameron Arquette tied it at 13:31. Less than three minutes later Cade Bell circled the net, came out from and beat Cougars' goalie Kyle Metson glove side with the eventual winner.
