Knights battle back to win city championship

Holy Names walked into a hostile environment at Villanova Wednesday night for the Sr. Girls AAA final. "It was really intimidating." said Knights setter Izzy Hage "They had an awesome fan section with lots of noise and cheering going on. We really had to tune them out to focus on what we had to do."

It took Holy Names time to settle in. They lost the first two sets.

"I just told them we've been here before and had that to draw on." said head coach Joe Goulet. "We've shown some good resilience in the past and I felt they could do it and they did."

The Knights gained some momentum winning the third set 25-18. Goulet says his team felt more comfortable after that which helped his team. After taking the fourth set 25-23 Holy Names jumped out to a quick 10-5 lead in the tie-breaker.

"They lost their starting setter to injury which was a sad way to finish what was otherwise a hotly contested match." Goulet said.

The Knights took the set 15-10 to advance to SWOSSA.

"Villanova was an awesome opponent all year with a lot of strong players. We were happy to get the win." Hage said.

Holy Names will host SWOSSA on February 24th at 5:30.
