Knights slay Lancers to advance to OFSAA

Holy Names is heading to OFSAA after a convincing 6-0 at home against Chatham's UCC Lancers. "Such a special group from day one." said co-head coach Stacey Ditchfield. "We're peaking at the right time."

Leah Tate and Layla Hutson each scored twice with singles going to Mya Mascaro and Jane Posey. "It's real exciting." Posey said. "We've been working towards this the whole year. Going to tournaments. Playing teams that are going to be at OFSAA so we know what to expect and we're excited to go."

The Knights went 6-0 during the regular season and Mascaro feels team chemistry is what has helped their undefeated run so far. "We have a lot of competitive players on this team. A lot of travel players and a lot of us play together so I feel that helps with the chemistry.

"It's definitely been really really fun." said Posey who is in grade 10. "I think off the field especially. We're all close. There's no drama or anything. We're all friends. Talk to each other. Nothing is awkward and it move onto the field.

Holy Names heads to Grimsby June 8th for the provincial championship tournament. "We set our goals but we took it day by day just to make sure we could eventually come here and I am so excited for them." Ditchfield said.

Lajeunesse and L'Essor won their respective SWOSAA championships and advance to the provincial tournament as well. It was a super Thursday for girls soccer in Windsor Essex.
