Koszegi walks off for Lady Expos

It's a moment not every ball player gets to experience and Liv Koszegi was not about to be denied. The 15-year old DH hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th to help the Windsor Lady Expos beat the Milton Bats 10-9 in their first game of U17 tier-2 provincial qualifier at Mic Mac Park. "Coach told me to stay on third and I said no." Koszegi said with a laugh as the Lady Expos erased a two-run deficit in the final frame.

Erika Derush started the comeback with a solid hit to second base that was mishandled. Avery Hopper got on base with an infield single. Abby Tir hit one up the middle to score DeRush cutting the deficit to one. With runners at second and third and no outs Morgan Wheeler put the ball in play. She was thrown out at first but was credited with an RBI as Hopper beat the tag at home to tie the game.

Koszegi was given the green light to swing big and she got a hold of a fastball and sent it to the left field fence. "U-17. I'm 15-year old. First homerun of my life in fast pitch. Felt amazing," Koszegi said. "Being a tight game like that, feel like it was even more special in that moment."

Head coach Brad Devine said the win was a full team effort from the bats to the performance on the mound by Tir. "That's what I told them. Girls we need base runners. Go station to station one at a time and we go the tying run up there. We score that tying run and Liv came up and hit one as hard as I've ever seen her hit one. It was a great way to walk it off." Devine told Powerplay Sports.

The Lady Expos are trying to qualify for the A level championship. They'll play Saturday at Mic Mac Park at 1pm. A win will guarantee reaching their goal.
