Laj ready for showdown with Assumption

When Lajeunesse visited Riverside Wednesday the game was going to decide who would have a crack at being the regular season champs. Both teams were 4-0 heading in. "We knew we had to come in strong," said Royal head coach Kim Adams whose team lost to the Stingers last weekend during a local tournament. "We switched things up. We knew this game had to be a win for us to stay ahead in the league.
Peyton Quenneville scored three goals to lead Lajeunesse to a 5-2 win. Manuela Vettraino and Sierra Gosselin scored singles for Le Royal while Azlaya Middleton and Lily Scofield tallied for the Stingers who dropped to 4-1.
"It was a tough game for us," said Middleton who scored in the first half. "We just had a rough game today. This is our first loss. In other games we've been high in scoring and we've come together as a team. It's a frustrating loss but we've come a long way.
Riverside is now third in the Group 2 (A/AA) division and close out the season at home Monday against the Herman Green Griffins who are 5th at 1-3-1.
Lajeunesse is the lone A school playing ball this spring and have used the season to prepare for a chance to attain their ultmate goal. "We're using every game as a practice experience. We tried to get in a lot of tournaments this year and our goal is OFSSA. Our goal is to get a medal at OFSAA."
Le Royal advanced out of pool play but lost in the semi-finals.
Lajeunesse won a tournament in Tilbury Friday and feel good about their game as their get set to square off against the Assumption Purple Raiders Monday at 4pm at the University of Windsor. "It feels good to be up at the top," said Gosselin whose team can win the regular season title. "We play really good together. We have a lot of chemistry and we talk a lot when we need to."
