Lancers cautious heading into 0-2 York

The Windsor Lancers football team returns to action Saturday afternoon at 4pm when they face the York Lions on the road. Windsor is coming off a needed bye week.

"The bye week came at a great time for our team as we are slowly getting some players back healthy," Head coach J-P Circelli told Powerplay Sports. "Our depth is being tested earlier than we would like, but that’s football."

Depth at quarterback was tested in their last game at Carleton August 31st when starter Danny Skelton was knocked out of the game with an injury. Corson Roy entered the game and helped engineer a comeback that was capped off by Brady Lidster's career-best 55-yard field goal. Skelton will start against the Lions. "His minor injury prior to halftime last game has healed." Circelli ensured.

Windsor (2-0) heads to Toronto to take on a York team that is 0-2 but Circelli is cautious heading into the contest. "Heading to York presents new challenges as the Lions are a much improved team from a year ago," Circelli said. "The new coaching staff has brought in many experienced players from the CJFL and they are running complex schemes that have caused their opponents some problems this year. It will be important for our team to start fast and put pressure on York in the first half. Further emphasis on communication and core fundamentals during our bye week should allow us to play a more complete game this weekend."

Windsor returns home September 21st to face Ottawa at 4pm.

aboutus

Powerplay Windsor was born during a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass sparked a memory—being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan early in my career. That brought me to the upcoming season that was going to be overlooked due to cuts to legacy media.

I launched Powerplay Sports as a passion project and to continue showcasing local athletes and our vibrant sports community.

Our video channel brings you highlights, interviews and behind the scenes access. We are courtside, rinkside and on the field capturing moments that matter.
